Lifting Up the Next Generation of Indigenous Leaders
The Indigenous Student Support Program is designed to help Indigenous students at Nova Scotia Community College campuses across the province address everyday financial issues that can get in the way of academic success. Financial challenges vary from student to student, but they can include access to childcare, transportation costs, food insecurity, unexpected health expenses, or family emergencies.
By supporting this program, you are supporting future Indigenous business owners, trades people, innovators, creators, and leaders - the friends and neighbours whose hard work and big dreams keep our communities growing and thriving.
How the Program Works
The program supports initiatives created to help Indigenous students overcome barriers to learning and graduating. The program funds initiatives like:
- Immediate Needs Fund
- Cost-of-Living Bursaries
- Cultural Supports
- Elders on Campus
Immediate Needs Fund:
Working directly with Indigenous Student Advisors at NSCC to provide students with funding and resources needed to meet immediate needs such as food insecurity, transportation, personal items, childcare or other expenses.
Cost-of-Living Bursaries:
These financial-need-based bursaries provide $500 per bursary recipient to help pay for non-education expenses causing financial stress.
Cultural Supports:
Providing culturally-relevant supports to Indigenous students at NSCC like funding for ceremonies and workshops.
Elders on Campus:
Funding supports the presence of a community Elder on campus providing students with a safe space to seek guidance and counsel while they learn.
Your donation to this program will provide much needed support to Indigenous students, helping to remove some of the barriers faced and enabling students to focus on their academic success.
